Spain: New packaging format that reduces plastic use by 99%

Mans, the brand for organic fruit and vegetables at Bonpreu and Esclat stores, has just launched a new, more sustainable packaging for organic products that reduces plastic use by 99%.

This new packaging format is the result of the commitment of the supermarket chain and the Mans Social Cooperative to reduce their environmental impact in all production and distribution areas for their organic products.

The new packaging manages to be more environmentally-friendly in two ways:

Firstly, it mostly resorts to biodegradable materials, since the tray is FSC-certified, compostable, and biodegradable, and the mesh is mostly made of cotton.

Secondly, it uses a very small amount of material; a total of 16 grams. 15 grams corresponds to the tray and one gram to the mesh.
