SIIM and CMA CGM have signed a logistics agreement covering the weekly transport of more than 70 refrigerated containers of pineapples and bananas from Latin America to the Port of Dunkirk from January 2026. The volumes, previously handled through Rotterdam and Antwerp, will now be discharged exclusively in Dunkirk under CMA CGM's NEWFI (PCRF XL) service. The agreement represents more than 80,000 tons of fruit annually from Colombia, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.

With this shift, SIIM expects to consolidate more than 5,000 containers from Africa and Latin America through Dunkirk in 2026. The company, part of the Omer-Decugis & Cie Group, already brings mangoes, coconuts, and other exotics from West Africa into the French port and will route more than 10,000 TEU through Dunkirk next year.
The national port authority and CMA CGM say the changes support the port's growing role in handling temperature-controlled fruit imports. Dunkirk is currently France's leading entry point for tropical fruit in containers.
CMA CGM will increase its NEFWI service from six to seven vessels, adding more reefer capacity and including a new call at Puerto Antioquia to support banana exports from Colombia. As the first European port of call, Dunkirk will receive the cargo before distribution across France and Northern Europe.
The company also notes that its LNG-powered vessels and the port's LNG bunkering and shore-to-ship power systems are part of wider decarbonisation measures built into the service.
SIIM plans to expand its operational presence in Dunkirk with a new logistics and ripening facility scheduled for construction in 2025 and targeted to open in 2027. The site will be located adjacent to the container terminal to streamline handling and onward distribution of bananas, pineapples, and other tropical fruit.
The Port of Dunkirk said the agreement strengthens its position as a logistics hub for temperature-controlled produce in Northern Europe. Port management expects the additional volumes to support the development of local supply-chain infrastructure and employment linked to fruit import flows.
