Volyn's favorable climate and soil conditions have made berry farming a rapidly growing sector. Since its founding in 2017, SAV Agro Partner has become a leading producer of organic berries and vegetables, working in partnership with Biofrozen LLC, responsible for freezing using modern IQF (Individual Quick Freezing) technology from Polish manufacturer Unidex, combined with laser sorting.
SAV Agro Partner manages 300 hectares, 160 of which are cultivated, all certified organic. Key crops include strawberries, raspberries (including remontant varieties), cherries, sea buckthorn, buckwheat, and various vegetables and melons. The company emphasizes quality, sustainability, and compliance with international market standards.
Biofrozen's IQF facility, launched in 2025, can freeze 20–50 tonnes of produce daily while preserving 98% of nutrients. The full-cycle process includes washing, sorting, freezing, and storage, enhanced by laser sorters and strict quality checks. Planned upgrades include an X-ray sorter to detect hidden defects. Backup solar energy ensures continuous operation amid the full-scale war in Ukraine and power supply challenges.
Strawberries are grown from verified varieties with staggered ripening, avoiding late-season varieties due to labor shortages. Raspberry plantations cover 40 hectares, with mechanized harvesting being tested. The company also experiments with grape and adapted watermelon varieties.
Biofrozen primarily exports to the EU, where high-quality standards drive continuous improvement. In 2024, Ukraine became the world leader in net exports of frozen raspberries, shipping 65,000 tonnes, a 34% increase from 2023. The company also provides freezing services to other producers.
Both companies employ hundreds locally, though labor migration has increased due to the war. To address workforce challenges, investments in automation and mechanization are ongoing.
SAV Agro Partner and Biofrozen demonstrate how technology-driven, organic production can thrive under challenging conditions while meeting the demands of global markets.
