Vita Verde visits Pietro Rosco in Basilicata

"After cooler nights, demand for Italian broccoli increases"

Recently, the Vita Verde team paid a working visit to Pietro Rosco, a committed and progressive grower in the heart of Basilicata (southern Italy). During the visit, they discussed joint plans for the coming years. "The cooperation between Vita Verde and Pietro Rosco, which feels more like family than business, has been running for years on trust, craftsmanship, and quality, and is stronger than ever," says Frits de Mooij.

Focus on growth in 2025
For the new season, it has been decided to focus mainly on expanding the broccoli acreage. Both Vita Verde and Pietro Rosco's team see many opportunities for this product. "The cauliflower acreage will also be significantly expanded, so that we can respond even better to the growing demand from Europe. From the beginning of next year, we will also expand the range to include Chinese cabbage. A great step that will allow us to offer our customers a more complete and future-proof range," says Frits.

With a total area of 350 hectares, Pietro Rosco has an extensive cultivation base and the flexibility to adjust quickly when needed. The plots are located in Basilicata, a region known for its fertile soils and stable climate. "Ideal conditions for the crops that are central to our cooperation. Thanks to this foundation, we can continue to build on products of consistent, high quality, which is essential for a strong position within European retail."

"The season got off to a somewhat slower start this year. This was due to the continued mild weather in the rest of Europe, which kept local products available longer. Fortunately, with the recent cooler nights, we are seeing demand pick up again. Our goal remains the same: sustainable, long-term agreements with our customers, where trust and responding to their needs are central."

A partnership that feels like family
"The relationship between Vita Verde and Pietro Rosco goes beyond a regular business partnership. The open communication, shared ambitions, and mutual focus on sustainable cultivation make the cooperation feel more like a family working together toward the future. These kinds of collaborations are rare in the sector, and precisely for that reason, so valuable. They form the foundation for long-term growth."

"On behalf of the entire Vita Verde team, we would like to thank Pietro and Antonio for their warm welcome, continued trust, and pleasant cooperation. With the plans made during the visit and the commitment of everyone involved, we confidently look forward to a new season. It promises to be another fruitful year," Frits concludes.
