Malaysian pineapple exports double in six months

Malaysia's pineapple industry recorded export growth of more than 100 per cent over the past six months, according to Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

He reported that exports rose from 800 to 1,727 containers as of October 2024. "This achievement proves that the agricultural sector, particularly the pineapple industry, has great potential to generate substantial income for our farmers," Mohamad said in a statement on Sunday, November 2.

He added that exports are expected to continue increasing in 2025, supported by ongoing efforts from producers, government agencies, and other sector participants.

The minister also encouraged greater participation in modern farming practices, particularly among younger Malaysians. He stated that wider adoption of technology-driven production could help improve farmers' income and enhance national food security.

Malaysia's pineapple sector continues to expand both domestically and in export markets, with industry observers pointing to strong regional demand and ongoing government initiatives to strengthen the country's agri-export base.
