Cambodia plans to begin exports of pineapple, jackfruit, and mango to China under strengthened cooperation within the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) framework. The initiative is part of efforts to expand agricultural trade and streamline export procedures between the two countries.
The announcement followed a meeting between Cambodia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Dith Tina, and China's Minister of the General Administration of Customs (GACC), Sun Meijun. The discussion took place during the 2nd Conference on "Food Safety Mechanism for Export and Import for the Belt and Road Cooperation Framework Member Countries," held in Shanghai from October 14–15, 2025.
Both sides agreed to accelerate the development and approval of SPS protocols to enable the export of several agricultural products, including pineapple, jackfruit, and mango. These steps are intended to align Cambodian products with Chinese import requirements and ensure consistency in food safety and quality.
The Ministry of Agriculture has encouraged farmers and processing companies to apply Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to meet export standards. Officials stated that the implementation of these practices would support compliance with Chinese phytosanitary regulations and help strengthen market access for Cambodian fruit.
In 2024, Cambodia exported nearly 12 million tons of agricultural products valued at more than US$5.2 billion to 95 markets, an increase of 39% compared with 2023. China remains one of the main destinations for Cambodian fruit exports, along with the United States, Vietnam, and Japan.
The Ministry of Agriculture said that cooperation under the SPS framework will support predictable market entry for Cambodian pineapple, jackfruit, and mango, while improving coordination between producers, exporters, and regulatory authorities.
