According to the Myanmar Pineapple Growers and Exporters Association, arrangements are underway to export more than 40,000 tons of pineapples during the 2025-2026 financial year.
Pineapples are cultivated across Myanmar and were previously grown mainly for domestic consumption. In recent years, production has increasingly shifted towards export markets. "This year, we are planning to export more than 40,000 tons of pineapples. High-quality pineapples such as those from Hsipaw will be exported, with the majority destined for China," said a responsible official from the association.
Currently, over 20,000 acres of pineapples are under cultivation nationwide, with Shan State and Kachin State accounting for the largest planted areas. Pineapples from Shan State, in particular, are regarded as the main source for exports to China. Plantations in northern Shan State alone produce an average of 80,000 to 100,000 tons of pineapples annually.
Across Myanmar's pineapple-growing regions, there are two primary types of farms: Local GAP-certified farms and organic farms. Cultivation and production methods from China, Thailand, and Sri Lanka are also being applied. As a result, varieties with quality suited to export markets are increasingly being produced for international buyers.
