David Besnard, ABCD de L'Exotique:

"Spanish mangos are gradually taking over from South America"

It is a rather difficult market for mangos at the moment. The sluggish consumption is having an impact on sales volumes, so prices have been plummeting. "Markets are weak in terms of imports. Prices are too low, and we are finding it difficult to sell off our volumes due to weak demand. However, some varieties are doing better than others, such as the Osteen from Spain, which is taking an increasing share of the market," explains David Besnard, managing director of ABCD de l'Exotique.

© ABCD de L'Exotique Spanish mangos are becoming increasingly established on the French market, with volumes that are much higher than last year. "The Spanish greenhouse season started two weeks ago. For the moment, sugar levels are not high enough to trigger the open field campaign, which will last until October. In terms of market share, Spain is gradually overtaking South America. This is all the more true given that the expected volumes for this Spanish season are three times higher than for the previous season. On the other hand, we know that the marketing season will be shorter than last year, but with higher volumes. The reason for this is the favorable weather conditions for Spanish production this year."
