Tajikistan fruit and grape harvest up in August

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, about 324,000 tons of fruits and grapes were harvested by the end of the first decade of August. Fruit production increased by 32.4% year-on-year, adding 73,000 tons compared with the same period last year. Grape production rose by 38.2%.

Overall, crop production in the country increased by 9% this year, reaching 15.9 billion somoni (US$1.51 billion).

In the first half of 2024, 225,000 tons of fruits were harvested, including 19,500 tons of apples and 145,900 tons of apricots. Grape harvests during the same period reached 2,700 tons, which is much lower than the 2025 results over seven months.

Forecasts for 2025 suggest grape production will reach 221,000 tons, with fruit production projected at 726,000 tons. For the longer term, the outlook is for continued growth: in 2026, 926,000 tons of fruits and 375,000 tons of grapes; in 2027, 1 million tons of fruits and 425,000 tons of grapes; and in 2028, 1.085 million tons of fruits and 477,000 tons of grapes.

Fruit prices vary by region. In the first decade of August, grapes ranged between 4.40 and 20.40 somoni (US$0.42–1.94) per kg, with an average price of 10.86 somoni (US$1.03). Pears ranged from 8.40 to 35.00 somoni (US$0.80–3.34), averaging 16.58 somoni (US$1.58). Figs were priced between 10.40 and 34.20 somoni (US$0.99–3.26), with an average of 22.27 somoni (US$2.12). Peaches cost 5.60–20.33 somoni (US$0.53–1.94), averaging 11.39 somoni (US$1.09). Apples ranged from 5.00 to 12.33 somoni (US$0.48–1.18), with an average of 7.75 somoni (US$0.74).

Fruit prices in Tajikistan rose by 8% this summer, in line with general food price increases. Lemons recorded the highest increase at 14.2%, while apples rose 2.2% and grapes rose 38.2%. Since the beginning of August, lemons increased by 14.2%, apples by 2.2% and grapes by 0.4%. Regional data showed grape prices up 60.2% in the Khatlon region and 47.6% in the Sughd region.
