Pest found in 1.2 tons of peaches, shipment banned from sale

55.9 tons of fruits and berries imported from Kyrgyzstan to Russia’s Perm region in 2025

From January 1 to August 8, 2025, the Perm region in Russia received 55.9 tonnes of fresh berries (including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and currants) and fruits (such as peaches, nectarines, and apricots) from Kyrgyzstan, according to Rosselkhoznadzor. No such imports were recorded during the same period in 2024.

On August 5, authorities inspected a shipment of 4.4 tonnes of fresh strawberries, raspberries, hybrid berries, and peaches from Kyrgyzstan. Laboratory tests detected the presence of the oriental fruit moth (Grapholita molesta) in 1.2 tonnes of peaches, which were subsequently barred from sale in the region.

The remaining produce tested pest-free and was cleared for distribution under phytosanitary control certificates.
