There are no signs of a renewed disruption in Ecuador's banana exports to Russia, said Ecuador's ambassador to Moscow, Juan Fernando HolguĂn Flores, in a recent interview with RIA Novosti.
In 2024, Russia temporarily suspended five Ecuadorian exporters for 12 days due to concerns over contamination with fruit flies. However, the issue was quickly resolved through diplomatic and technical consultations. Ecuador strengthened its export controls and invited Russian authorities to verify compliance on-site.
Despite the brief suspension, Ecuador maintained a 98% share of the Russian banana market. The ambassador emphasized that the situation was exceptional and that current trade remains stable.
