A single Irwin mango from Tainan has set a record price of ¥4,320 (US$29) in Tokyo's Shinjuku City at Queen's Isetan supermarket, showcasing the price potential of this variety in Japan.
Known for vibrant red skin and sweet tropical aroma, these mangos have expanded to 22 Queen's Isetan locations across Japan. This follows a positive reception since their initial debut in three stores last year, as reported by CNA and 3 Door Hotel.

Originating in Taiwan's Yujing District, these Irwin mangos thrive due to the area's favorable conditions, including its basin-like topography, sandy soils, and an average annual temperature of 23.7°C.
The peak season for Yujing's mangos is from early June to July. Locally, the current price is about US$6 per kilogram, based on estimates from In Season. Li Yi-yang, Taiwan's representative to Japan, highlighted that entering a high-end Japanese market elevates the perception of Taiwanese agricultural products and underscores the strong trade ties between Taiwan and Japan.
In 2022, Taiwan exported fresh fruit valued at NT$978 million to Japan, accounting for 40.7 percent of its fruit export market. Japan stands as the largest market abroad for Taiwanese fresh fruit.
