U.S. almond crop sales down 59% by June 2025

By June 2025, US handlers reported sales volumes totaling 50.6 million kilograms for the 2025 almond crop, a 59% decrease from the 123.1 million kilograms recorded the prior year. The Almond Board of California (ABC) released its position report for June on July 12, covering market supply and demand insights for the 2024/25 crop year.

Annually in May, ABC begins providing sales figures for the upcoming crop year, updating these numbers in June and July reports. The 2025/26 crop sales reached 50.6 million kilograms, or 3.98% of the earlier USDA Subjective Estimate of 1.27 billion kilograms. However, on July 10, the USDA adjusted its prediction to 1.36 billion kilograms, further underselling the crop at 3.72% of the new estimation.

Historically, by June end, sales ranged from 4.9% to 15.3% of the USDA Forecast for crop years 2020/21 through 2024/25. The revised estimate indicates that market sales align closely with production forecasts, a trend seen during the 2023/24 season when the crop estimate increased midseason. Sales at June 2023's end were 55.5 million kilograms, or 4.9% of the estimate. By July's close, new crop commitments reached 92.9 million kilograms, of which July saw 37.4 million kilograms added, representing 40.3% of the season's total commitments.

Given these dynamics, stakeholders anticipate an uptick in sales as the current estimate becomes the accepted norm in the coming months, indicating potential shifts in market activities.
