For the first time, apples from Linzhi (Nyingchi), a city on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, will be exported to Singapore, marking a new milestone in the international reach of Tibetan fruit.
According to Xinhua News Agency and as reported by Guojiguoshu, Tibet Shangcheng Health Industry Co., Ltd., which manages over 4,000 mu (approximately 264 hectares) of apple orchards in the region, has already seen success exporting to Nepal. Since the first batch of 23.38 tons was shipped in April 2024, the company has exported nearly 490 tons to Nepal last year and 137 tons so far this year.
What makes Linzhi apples special is their high-altitude origin. Grown in a region with ample sunshine and large temperature swings between day and night, these apples develop a unique balance of sweetness and crunch. The sugar content can reach 12%, and they are also rich in vitamins. The apples are notably dense too, 15% heavier than similar varieties from other regions, with yields reaching up to 3,000 kilograms per mu in peak season.
