The Consulate General of India in Seattle, together with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), held an event titled 'Flavors of Indian Mangoes'. This initiative aligns with the Consulate's agenda for trade promotion and an increase in market accessibility.
Seattle-based importers and select media were introduced to a curated mango-tasting featuring five Indian varieties: Dussehri, Chausa, Langra, Mallika, and Totapuri. Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown, Senator Manka Dhingra, and Seattle Port Commissioner Sam Cho were among the attendees. The dignitaries reportedly enjoyed the mangoes' aroma, texture, and sweetness, according to a press release from the Consulate.
India's mango exports to the U.S. grew by 19% in 2024, classifying the U.S. as a primary export destination. Industry experts during the event illustrated how mangoes are celebrated in India. Meetings also occurred between exporters and U.S. retail leaders for the potential expansion of premium Indian mangoes into the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
A parallel session took place at an Indian Food Festival and Mango Promotion in Redmond on July 9, attended by Washington State Representative Alex Ybarra and members of the Indian American community. These gatherings underscored strategic efforts for boosting premium Indian mango presence in the local market.
