Gia Lai bananas reach high-end international markets

In Gia Lai province's high-altitude red basalt plateau, the Le Bang Banana brand has broken into premium export markets. Through a dedicated five‑year investment and cultivation under Global GAP-certified closed‑loop management, the company now reliably supplies bananas to South Korea, Japan, China, and the Middle East, with future expansion planned for Malaysia, Singapore, and Russia. Despite a modest total planted area of approximately 400 hectares, consistent quality has enabled access to top-tier retail chains, as reported by Vietnam Plus

Operating from more than 800 metres above sea level, the region benefits from mineral-rich soil and favourable climate conditions, which enhance banana taste and texture, boosting international competitiveness. While overall production remains limited, strong demand ensures a reliable international customer base.

Provincial trade officials note that bananas from the Central Highlands are gradually gaining recognition as a speciality brand, with farmer income diversification increasingly supported by a strategic shift toward high-value fruit crops like bananas alongside coffee, pepper, and rubber.

Gia Lai's performance reflects broader national trends: investing in high-tech cultivation, strict quality control, and export‑oriented branding is helping transform Vietnam's fruit sector into a sustainable contributor to both local livelihoods and global agri‑trade.
