Afghan exports sweet cherries to Uzbekistan as trade ties grow

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan plan to purchase around 100 tons of Afghan cherries from Panjshir, according to TOLONews.

The agreement follows a recent visit by business delegations from both countries to Afghanistan. The initiative aims not only to supply domestic markets in Central Asia but also to re-export Afghan cherries to Russia.

Importers from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have also expressed interest in broadening their purchases to include Afghan apples and grapes in the future.

Trade between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan is expanding rapidly. As of early May 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached $504.5 million, a significant increase compared to $319.4 million during the same period last year.
