India targets growth in organic food exports

India's organic food exports escalated from $213 million in 2012–13 to $494.80 million in 2023–24. This trend underscores existing growth opportunities in India's agricultural export sector, highlighted by Abhishek Dev, Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). During Indusfood 2025 in Greater Noida, Dev pointed out that India's agriculture export ranks as the seventh-largest worldwide. Nevertheless, it represents 2.4 per cent of the $2 trillion global agricultural trade, showcasing opportunities for Indian exporters to enhance their market presence.

The valuation of India's agricultural exports approximated $50 billion in 2023–24, with ongoing initiatives aiming to exceed this in the current fiscal. Dev noted a strategic pivot towards exporting value-added products instead of raw commodities.

In the organic sector, India's contribution to the $147 billion global market is about 2.5 per cent. APEDA aims to expand this share significantly over five years, with exports growing steadily from $213 million in 2012–13 to $495 million in 2023–24.

Indusfood 2025, backed by the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) and the Department of Commerce, debuted under Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan. This event features over 2,300 exhibitors from 30 countries and attracts 7,500 international buyers along with 15,000 domestic buyers and visitors.

TPCI Chairman Mohit Singla stated that the event aims not just to bolster trade but also to link farmers with technology and global markets. The international exhibitor presence nearly doubled, reflecting strong participation from various countries.
