Prevar has announced the release of its first pinky-red flesh apple cultivar, PremA021, which will be marketed under the brand name Fizz. The new variety has been exclusively licensed to Snazzy Fruit for fresh fruit production and distribution, with small volumes expected to enter select markets this season.
Fizz was developed through Plant & Food Research's apple breeding program and is noted for its distinctive pink-red flesh and berry-like flavour. Its appearance and taste are intended to offer a differentiated option within the apple category, according to Prevar.

Amanda Lyon, Brand Manager at Prevar, noted that the variety's unique internal colour offers a point of interest for both retailers and consumers. Snazzy Fruit, which holds the license for commercial production, is currently working with growers and retailers to coordinate early market access.
Josh Parlane, Managing Director of Snazzy Fruit, said that the company sees potential for Fizz in premium markets due to its flavour profile and visual appeal.
The apple contains anthocyanins, compounds being studied for their possible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These naturally occurring pigments are responsible for the fruit's internal colouring.
Commercial plantings of Fizz are already in progress. Snazzy Fruit is encouraging interest from additional growers as the company expands its supply network.
Fizz joins other apple and pear varieties developed through Prevar's breeding collaborations, including Rockit, Joli, Dazzle, Sassy, and PIQA Pears, which are licensed for production in various international markets.
