In the village of Zhany-Zher, located in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, a new agricultural cooperative called Klubmalina Zhany-Zher has been established to grow high-quality strawberries for export, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
The cooperative unites 28 families who have leased 32 hectares of state land to cultivate high-yield strawberry varieties. The harvest season runs from May to June, with the berries being packed, cooled, and sold domestically and abroad, primarily to Kazakhstan and Russia.
To ensure efficient irrigation, the farmers built a 2,000-cubic-meter water reservoir. The cooperative also invested in agricultural equipment, including an MTZ tractor and a Hyundai Porter with a refrigerated chamber for transporting fresh produce.
During peak season, the cooperative provides jobs for up to 50 workers. Plans are in place to expand the plantation to 50 hectares, adopt a cluster farming model, establish a processing facility, obtain organic certification, and develop agritourism and youth training initiatives.
In Russia's Chelyabinsk region, the Office of Rosselkhoznadzor has approved the import of fresh strawberries from Kyrgyzstan, with the initial shipment totaling 4.4 tons.
