Southern Kazakhstan expects high yield of early vegetables

Authorities in southern Kazakhstan are forecasting a strong harvest of early-season vegetables this year, with the bulk of production centered in the Turkistan region. According to the Prime Minister's press service, 17,500 tonnes of cabbage have already been harvested there, including 1,300 tonnes exported.

Official estimates for total early harvests in the southern regions include 216,600 tonnes of potatoes, 41,500 tonnes of carrots, 87,500 tonnes of onions, and 228,900 tonnes of cabbage.

In addition to exports, the Turkistan region has started supplying early cabbage under forward contracts to Zhetysu, Almaty, and Kyzylorda regions.

To ensure a stable domestic supply, Kazakhstan has also imported 80,000 tonnes of potatoes and 30,000 tonnes of cabbage since the beginning of the year.

As of April 28, the Ministry of Agriculture reported contracts signed for the delivery of 25,600 tonnes of early vegetables: 11,100 tonnes of potatoes, 4,700 tonnes of carrots, 4,300 tonnes of onions, and 5,400 tonnes of cabbage.

To prevent border delays, a "green corridor" for vegetable shipments has been introduced until the end of June. The measure is expected to speed up deliveries, reduce logistics costs, and help stabilize domestic prices.
