On August 19, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Department of Customs of China inked three protocols during General Secretary and President To Lam's visit to China. These agreements facilitate the export of fresh coconuts, frozen durians, and crocodile products to the Chinese market. The protocols cover inspection, plant quarantine, and food safety for frozen durian; plant quarantine for fresh coconut; and quarantine and health for farmed crocodiles exported from Vietnam to China.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan highlighted the importance of these agreements, noting, "We believe this will significantly boost agricultural exports, particularly the newly approved products to the Chinese market, and contribute to the growth of Vietnam's agricultural sector." The ministry is set to work closely with the General Administration of Customs of China to ensure the smooth exportation of these products.
The agreements are expected to enhance agricultural cooperation and economic ties between Vietnam and China, providing immediate export opportunities and contributing to the long-term growth of Vietnam's agricultural sector. The ministry also plans to support stakeholders through workshops and training on the new protocols and compliance measures, alongside enhancing infrastructure and logistics to support exports.
With the opening of the Chinese market, exports of fresh coconuts are projected to increase significantly, boosting the economic benefits and sustainable development of Vietnam's coconut industry.
