Zhejiang province facilitates global export of Chinese bayberries

East China's Zhejiang Province has been at the forefront of enhancing the industrial and logistics chain to ensure the global distribution of Chinese bayberries. This initiative has seen Zhejiang's local fruit producers and logistics companies adopting advanced methods to extend the fruit's shelf life and reach international markets. Notably, an advertisement showcasing Xianju bayberry from Taizhou City was displayed in New York's Times Square, marking a significant milestone for the fruit's promotion.

The Chinese bayberry, known for its unique flavour profile, has a peak harvest season during June and July. Historically, its short shelf life posed challenges for long-distance transportation. However, advancements in preservation technology have allowed for fresh bayberries to be available well beyond their typical season. This breakthrough was achieved through a novel cooling technology that inhibits the growth of harmful microorganisms and maintains the fruit's freshness without the need for preservatives or additives.

In conjunction with these technological advancements, cold-chain logistics have also evolved to support the extended freshness of bayberries through innovative packaging and preservation methods. As a result, Zhejiang has seen a significant increase in bayberry production, with the province's output reaching 700,000 tonnes. This accounts for a substantial portion of China's total bayberry production, facilitating exports to over 20 countries and regions. Efforts by local authorities to streamline inspection and certification processes for agricultural exports further support the efficient distribution of fresh produce to international markets.
