Fresh apple exports from Xizang to Nepal

On Wednesday, over 23 tons of fresh apples from Nyingchi, Xizang autonomous region, were exported to Nepal through Gyirong Port. The export was facilitated by Xizang Shangcheng Health Industry Co, marking its inaugural shipment to Nepal, valued at over 194,100 yuan ($26,800). The company has committed to exporting 99 tons of apples to Nepal, with a subsequent consignment of 26 tons ready for export shortly.

Nyingchi apples are recognized for their red appearance, high sugar content, and quality, contributing to their popularity. With a cultivation area of 2,520 hectares in 2023, yielding approximately 15,000 tons annually and generating a production value of about 170 million yuan, the export potential is significant. Lhasa Customs is facilitating Nyingchi's development into a reform and opening-up pioneer, promoting superior Xizang products internationally.

Efforts include customized support for companies, orchard registration for export, quality management enhancement, and streamlined customs procedures. Wang Cunrui, deputy director of Nyingchi Customs, highlighted the tailored support provided to businesses. Li Longjing, head of Xizang Shangcheng Health Industry, expressed optimism about expanding into the South Asian market, with plans to export 1,000 tons of apples and diversify into other products. This initiative aims to transform fruit production into a substantial industry, boosting local prosperity in Xizang.
