With more states opening up or facilitating trade of agricultural commodities on digital wholesale agri-marketing platform – electronic – National Agriculture Market (eNAM), there is a marked growth in trading among various markets within the state as well as at the inter-state level.
In the April-October period of the current fiscal, there has been a 260% annual spike in inter-mandi trade on e-NAM to Rs 7.85 billion (€86.35 mln). In terms of inter-state trade, which was not happening a year ago, there has been an increase since the beginning of the year.
According to an Agriculture Ministry official, while the volume of inter-mandi trade is still a small portion of total turnover of e-NAM in April-October (2023-24), it indicates a gradual shift to the digital platform, being used for better price discovery by the farmers.
