Onion auction begins at Nashik’s Vinchur market – some 500 tons sold

After extensive consultation with traders of Nashik district’s Vinchur submarket, the Lasalgaon market committee finally managed to begin an auction of onions there, which led to 500 tons of onions being sold.

According to Balasaheb Kshirsagar, chairman of Lasalgaon’s wholesale market in Niphad taluka of Maharashtra’s Nashik district, show cause notices have been issued to traders who have been boycotting the auction. Onion traders and commission agents of Nashik have boycotted trade to press for their demand which includes an immediate rescind of the 40 per cent import duty levied by the central government on the product.
