Last Friday, the 2023/2024 season for exporting fresh fruit through the Pecém Port Terminal. The initial shipment was 2,500 tons and included melons, watermelons, mangoes and grapes produced in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande Norte, Pernambuco and Bahia. Of this initial volume shipped, 98% will be unloaded in the ports of Rotterdam and London. The rest will go to other ports in Europe. Exports will begin with the MSC Sofia Celeste, the first ship dedicated to exporting the 2023/2024 fruit harvest to Europe.
André Magalhães, Commercial Director of Complexo do Pecém said: “This operation marks the beginning of the fruit season, one of our flagships. We have a very positive expectation with this year's harvest, both for Europe and the United States.”
In the first seven months of this year, Pecém already exported 25,600 tons of fruit. Daniel Soares, MSC manager in Fortaleza and Pecém, explains that the company has operated in Pecém since the opening of the port in Ceará, in 2002, but the fruit export service only started in 2017.
