Banana prices in India expected to increase as festive season nears

After tomatoes and other vegetables, it is the price of bananas which is expected to skyrocket. Bananas are being sold at Rs 100 per kg in Bengaluru, owing to less supply from Tamil Nadu. Of course, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra are the largest banana-producing states.

Traders have claimed that, as the demand for bananas would continue to increase due to the upcoming festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam, Navratri, Durga Puja, the prices may not come down from the current levels.

Meanwhile, the price of Khandesh banana in Delhi’s Azadpur Mandi was at Rs 1,200 /100 kgs (minimum price) Rs 2,000 /100 kgs (maximum price) and Rs 1,800 /100 kgs (average price). The prices vary according to the varieties.

Meanwhile, onion prices have gone up slightly. To check prices of onion, the central government has release of stocks from the onion buffer of 300,000 tons.
