The South African cabinet has made clear it is grateful for the improvement in Eskom’s energy availability factor, which is now closer to 70%. The cabinet statement also noted the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment’s National Air Quality Officer granting Eskom a postponement to meet minimum emission standards at Kusile Power Station, Mpumalanga.
The executive has reiterated the governmental commitment to the Just Energy Transition (JET) and determination to mitigate the impact of climate change. “[The] cabinet also thanked South Africans who continue to use electricity sparingly, especially during peak times. Our combined energy efforts have helped bring about lower stages of load shedding.”
