The Maharashtra State Onion Growers Association and onion farmers across the state are facing a financial crisis due to the drop in onion rates. Due to this situation, the organization is now preparing a report on various issues related to onion farming which will be submitted to the federal and state governments next month.
While there are hundreds of thousands of onion farmers in the state, especially in the three main districts of Nashik, Ahmednagar and Pune; followed by Dhule, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Beed, Solapur and other districts, the summer onion yield on nearly 30,000 hectares of land has been damaged due to unseasonal rain and fluctuating weather in the last couple of months and is going to be sold at very low rates.
