Spain will produce more than 120,000 tons of almonds this year

According to the latest estimate of the national nuts table, Spain will produce 120,633 tons of grain almonds in the 2023 campaign. This is 49% above the average of the last three years and is mainly due to the entry into production of more than 16,000 new hectares.

This year's productive area stands at 538,353 hectares, 3.1% more than last year, as reported by the sector on Tuesday in a statement.

The new hectares are mainly irrigated areas in the regions of Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, and Andalusia. They have partially cushioned the negative impact of the current adverse weather events and the long period of drought that the main production areas are experiencing, which have strongly impacted rain-fed plantations.

The organic production area exceeds 100,000 hectares, which represents almost 20% of the total area.

The sector also recalled that there was a record fall in last year's harvest due to inclement weather in the production areas.
