Pakistan fixes onion target at 2.4 mln tons, potato at 6.03 mln tons

An official in Pakistan’s Ministry of National Food Security and Research has stated that in Punjab, potatoes would be cultivated on 221,000 hectares as output targets for the province had been fixed at 5.966 million tons during current season. Sindh has been assigned a task to grow potatoes over 700 hectares to produce 65,000 tons.

In general, onions would be cultivated on 162,000 hectares to produce about 2.422 million tons (mt) of onions during the 2022-23Rabi season, besides cultivating potatoes on over 226,000 hectares to produce 6.029 million tons of potatoes.

More potatoes will be grown on over 2,500 hectares in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to produce over 30,300 tons and in Balochistan the potatoes cultivation targets were fixed at 26,200 tons to tackle with the domestic needs.
