The overall price of Chinese fruit has dropped slightly recently

The latest monitoring data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs shows that the average price of fruits across China has fallen for the past two weeks, and prices of summer seasonal fruits such as watermelons and melons have dropped significantly.

Supply increases and fruit prices in China fall slightly for two consecutive weeks
Since late May, watermelons in Jiangsu, Yunnan, Shandong and the surrounding areas of Beijing have been on the market, and the price has dropped significantly. The price of watermelon in the Xinfadi market in Beijing has dropped. Last month, it was 6.4RMB and 6.6RMB per kg. This month, it was 4.8RMB and 5RMB per kg.

In addition to watermelons, the market volume of melons in Hebei and Shandong has also increased by 16% compared with last month. The current price is about 8RMB/kg, which is about 20% lower than last month. After entering the summer, cherries, lychees, peaches and other fruits have gradually entered the peak period, and the daily fruit market volume of Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Products Wholesale Market has reached about 11,500 tons.

According to Zhao Junye, the chief fruit analyst of the agricultural product market early warning team of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Henan, Shandong, and Jiangsu are major watermelon and melon producing-provinces, with an annual output of nearly 20 million tons. At present, watermelons and melons produced in plastic greenhouses in these three provinces are supplied to the market in large quantities. The open-field watermelon is also on the market gradually, and the supply is sufficient.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in the first week of June, the average price of the six types of fruits under monitoring was 7.31RMB per kilogram, down 1.1% month-on-month, which was a slight drop for two consecutive weeks.

New varieties, new models, steady increase in national fruit production
According to a fruit planting base in Beijing, by introducing new special varieties and implementing standardized production management, the output and quality of fruit have improved. The seasonal fruits currently planted in the park of an agricultural science and technology company in Beijing include cherries, apricots, strawberries and watermelons, and the current output has increased by 16% compared with the same period last year.

It is understood that China is a major country in fruit production and consumption. In recent years, fruit production capacity has steadily increased. It is estimated that in 2022, the national fruit output will be 299 million tons, an increase of 2% over the previous year.
