Recently, it was the production season of Miyi loquat from Panzhihua. However, from February 21 to 22, heavy snow fell suddenly in the middle and high mountains of Miyi Panzhihua and other places. In supermarkets, there are only a few loquats that have been on the market recently. On the e-commerce sales platform, Miyi loquat can also be regarded as a high-end fruit. If the weight of a single fruit is more than 30 grams, the general price is more than 80 RMB/kg.
Why do Miyi loquats have such a "high value"?
Because early spring loquats are basically only available in Panzhihua. Panzhihua is located in a "dry-hot valley", with good light and temperature conditions. The average annual temperature in Miyi County reaches 20.5°C, which allows local loquats to enter the market in advance. The Miyi loquats hit the market before the Spring Festival, but in other regions, loquats will not be available until April. When a thing is scarce, it is precious. The limited quantity always keeps the early spring loquats at high prices. This year, the partial reduction in loquat production even raised the previous high price.
The continuous high-temperatures of last summer reduced the yield of loquats by about 40%. Last year, the wholesale price was about 28 RMB/kg. This year, it has risen to 44 RMB/kg. Before the Spring Festival, the wholesale price even sold for 52 RMB/kg. Recently, wholesalers from all over the country have come to Miyi, and the loquats are in short supply. The loquat sales period of Panzhihua will last until April, and the loquat will be released in larger quantities in the later period. However, snow on the 22nd added to this uncertainty.
