Ginger prices fall, and many producing areas are facing slow sales

Last year, the price of ginger soared to around 10 RMB/kg. However, the price of ginger this year is not satisfactory. In many ginger-producing areas, growers have reported that the initial purchase price of ginger from the field this year is at the lowest point in recent years.

According to media reports, there have been slow sales in several producing areas in recent days. Most farmers said that although the price of ginger is very low, they still can’t sell it. They can only keep the ginger in the field until someone buys gingers. At present, the main reason for the sharp decline in the purchase price of ginger is the oversupply.

In 2020, there was a bumper harvest of ginger, and the increasing market has inspired a large number of growers to expand their crops, which has led to an increase in production this year. In addition, there is another reason for the price drop. In recent times, continuous rainfall in the main producing areas has caused waterlogging in the ginger cellars of some growers. Growers were unable to store ginger, and outsourced cold storage was also becoming saturated, so the fresh ginger on the market is showing a surplus, which further intensifies the price decline.
