South Korea: Majority of grape exports are from North Gyeongsang province

Grape farms in North Gyeongsang province have accounted for the majority of grape exports in 2020. This is largely driven by Shine Muscat grapes. Sources reported that 88.1 percent (US$27 million) of South Korea’s grape exports ($30.7 million) last year came from the province. Among them, 92.5 percent ($25 million) were Shine Muscat grapes.

Grapes are grown on 7,202 hectares of land in the province, accounting for 57 percent of all grape farms. Shine Muscat grapes began to gain presence in 2019. Annual growth in grape exports was 51 percent in 2020, far exceeding the national average (35 percent).

According to koreabizwire.com, major export destinations include China ($7.5 million), Vietnam ($6.9 million), Hong Kong ($5.6 million), Singapore ($1.5 million), and Canada ($1.4 million).
