Shipping costs recently increased significantly and this had an impact on the export volumes of many Chinese agricultural products, including garlic. However, the impact on the Chinese garlic industry was much smaller than for most industries. The sales volume also showed virtually no decline. Garlic is a daily necessity in many kitchens and strengthens the immune system, which is why market demand for garlic remains strong.
"The Chinese garlic market always welcomes a small peak period in the middle of December. This year is no exception. Overseas market demand for Chinese garlic grows in preparation for Christmas. And domestic market demand grows in anticipation of Chinese Spring Festival [12 February, 2021]. Holiday shopping stimulates the garlic market. Many buyers purchase their garlic early and store the garlic to make sure they have enough supplies during the holidays." This is according to Annie Chen, Sales Manager of Jining Fenduni Foodstuff Co., Ltd.

Garlic
The garlic price has gone through several periods of fluctuations, but at the moment the export price is stable. Still, the price is relatively high compared to this period last year. Compared to other suppliers in the international market, however, Chinese garlic is quite cheap. The Chinese market advantage is not just the relatively low price compared to other garlic producing countries, but also the abundant supply volume of Chinese garlic.
