Supply of vegetables and fruits in Delhi has been impacted due to the continuing farmer protests. As of yet, there are no shortages for these products, but prices are expected to go up.
Usually, some 5,500 tonnes of fruits and 6,500 tonnes of vegetables are delivered on a daily basis to the national capital's largest wholesale fruit and vegetable market, the Azadpur Mandi. However, these supplies have dropped to approximately 2,800 tonnes and 5,600 tonnes for fruits and vegetables since Friday.
According to Adil Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the APMC Mandi in Azadpur, both the arrivals and departures of trucks in the mandi have been hampered due to the protests. Still, the city isn't expected to face any scarcity of fruits or vegetables in the coming two days. This is despite a drop of almost 50% in supplies.
However, Khan stated that products would be more scarce if the protests and the resulting traffic jams would continue, with prices going up accordingly.
