Tripura to export queen pineapples with unique tags and logo

In a bid to promote Tripura’s homegrown queen pineapples, the department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation has developed unique tags and logo for packaging boxes for exporting the produce in national and international level.

A senior official from the department said that the National Institute of Design (NID) has designed logo for packets and tags for Tripura’s queen pineapples. “The NID in Ahmedabad, Gujarat designed the logo and tags for packets considering how to make the product more attractive, maintaining the quality of fruits and other products," the official said.

He also said that Tripura’s pineapple has received geographical identification (GI) tag and now it has crossed the borders of the country and reached the international markets of different countries including the Middle-east where it has gained people’s attention for its taste.

“Outside the country, fruits are usually displayed for the customers, once farmers start packing the produced pineapples in boxes with newly designed tags, it would become easier for people to understand that the fruits displayed are the delicious pineapple from Tripura," he said.

Pineapples are cultivated in 8,800 hectares of land in Tripura and roughly 4,000 farmers are directly involved with growing the fruit He also said that with the use of the tags it would become easier for people to recognise Tripura’s queen pineapples among other pineapples in the market.

“These tags will attract more people towards the produced fruit and anyone exporting Tripura’s queen pineapples would have to use the government prescribed packet with Tripura pineapple logo," he added.
