“We are heavily invested into organic”

When it comes to showing what is on offer at the Organic Produce Summit, there are few companies like Trinity Fruit Sales. The California-based company offers organic produce in a number of categories including stone fruit, citrus, fall fruits, kiwifruit, and grapes, among others. With the OPS falling in July, Levon Ganajian of Trinity Fruit Sales says stone fruit will be front and center in their booth.

“We are in the middle of our stone fruit season, so we will have peaches, plums, and nectarines all on show at the Organic Produce Summit,” he said, adding that organic acreage continues to gain an increasing share in Trinity Fruit’s overall portfolio. “We are heavily invested into organic. Our goal is for organic to make up 20 percent of our total volume. We farm over 16,000 acres, so 20 percent of that is quite a large figure. We have organic options available on all of our commodities which is a way that differentiates us from the competition.”

Organic as a category keeps growing
Trinity Fruit Sales is one of the companies that has exhibited at the Organic Produce Summit since it was launched in 2016. The company noted that the event has grown along with the category itself. Therefore, it continues to provide good opportunities to meet with customers, buyers, as well as peers in the industry.

“It has grown so much since it began,” Ganajian observed. “I think that reflects the industry as a whole. For Trinity Fruit, we have doubled our volume on organic stone fruit just this year alone, and we anticipate another 50 percent increase next season. We offer conventional alongside organic to provide customers with more options. We also look forward to talking about sustainability at the Summit and our values around this important issue.”

Pomegranate arils a large part of the business
Trinity Fruit Sales will have its pomegranate arils on display at the Organic Produce Summit, which Ganajian said is becoming one of the company’s top products. He also mentioned that visitors to the booth will have a chance to sample them.

“We grow many fall items including persimmons and pomegranates, each available in organic,” he shared. “Pomegranate arils are becoming a large part of our business now, and as a result we now have a year-round organic program. Trinity Fruit Sales was actually the first company to introduce pomegranate arils to the market.”

Ganajian added that the arils are available in a variety of different package sizes. “At the show, we will have arils in cups, which are typically 4.4oz,” he said. “However, we also do custom sizes for different customers. We even do a 2lb bulk pack which has been used for salad bars, for example.”

New proprietary stone fruit varieties
Some of the new things that Trinity Fruit Sales is working on include trialing new varieties of stone fruit. These proprietary varieties are intended to improve the eating experience as well as enable improved growing methods.

“We are currently coming up with a few proprietary varieties of stone fruit,” Ganajian shared. “Our goal is to continue to improve the eating experience of our stone fruit offerings which is one area that we feel is of great importance as we move forward as a company.”

Trinity Fruit Sales will be at Booth #206 at the Organic Produce Summit.
