The Korean Jinju City Agricultural Ministry recently promoted the region’s produce at Isetan in Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur.
Throughout the campaign, an abundance of fresh imported items such as pear, strawberry, persimmon, melon, yam, chestnut, pumpkin and cucumber were introduced to local consumers.
“We want to use this opportunity to enhance the interest of Malaysian consumers in our agricultural products,” said Jinju City deputy mayor Jung Jaemin. “We take pride in our contribution towards the development of Korean agricultural industry.”
He said strawberries from Jinju accounted for 75% of South Korea’s total strawberry exports.
All the fruits grown in the region of Jinju have higher natural sugar content and taste better than those in other parts of Korea. “This is because of Jinju’s location at the foot of Jirisan Mountain and the quality of water from the Nam River flowing into the city centre,” added Jung.
The deputy mayor said the ministry understood the growing awareness and demand for food safety practices by worldwide consumers: “We are very serious when it comes to food safety. Our local farmers comply with strict standards and there is a pesticide residue analysis centre for the export of agricultural products.”
