The volume of exports has slightly decreased (-1%), whereas they have increased in value (3%); there was a decrease in imports both as regards quantities (-0.5%) and values (-1.9%).
Overall, in 2012 Italy exported little less than 4 million tons for a total of approximately €3.94 billion.
As regards volume, fresh fruit has done well (+1.1%), whereas vegetables performed just like in 2011. Exports of citrus fruit and dried fruit have decreased by -13.4% and -9.6% respectively.
In terms of value, citrus haven't performed well, whereas there's an increase for fresh fruit (6.4%), vegetables (1%) and dried fruit (2.7%).

In addition, Italy has imported approximately 3 million 115 thousand tons of fruit and vegetables, for a total value of €2.7 billion.
Among the single sections, there was an increase in the volume of citrus (14.7%) and vegetables (3.5%), whereas the other sections have performed negatively e.g. fresh fruit (-9.7%), dried fruit (-7.6%) and tropical fruit (-5.6%). Value was also negative with the exception of citrus (19.2%) and dried fruit (2.4%).
