The Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam) has indicated that the Australian market could open up for Vietnamese fresh pomelo, contingent upon adherence to Australia's biosecurity protocols. This development follows a notification from the Secretariat of the SPS/WTO Committee No. G/SPS/N/AUS/588, which outlines the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry's import risk analysis for Vietnamese fresh pomelo.
For entry into the Australian market, Vietnamese pomelo must meet biosecurity measures against 19 specific pests including diaphorina citri, brevipalpus phoenicis, and xanthomonas citri subsp. citri among others. The notification also outlines additional prerequisites related to cultivation zones, packaging, and manufacturing facilities that must be met.
