In Bengaluru, the mango market has experienced a notable shift due to a significant reduction in Karnataka's production, leading to increased prices. The state recorded only 30% of its usual mango output, causing reliance on imports from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. As a result, prices have surged to ₹150 per kg, with variations based on size and variety, reaching up to ₹200 per kg. This price hike has impacted demand, with sales dropping to 40-50% of the norm in some areas and even lower in others, where alternative fruits are being preferred.
Despite the availability of various mango types, including the favored Banganapalle and other varieties like Mallika, Malgova, Dasheri, and Imam Pasand, the market has not seen the usual level of activity. The high cost has left many mango enthusiasts, accustomed to lower prices in previous years, dismayed at the current market rates.
