By 2025, the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province aims to incorporate advanced farming techniques across various crops, as outlined by Nguyễn Thanh Truyền, the director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The targeted areas include 6,000ha for dragon fruit, 2,000ha for vegetables, and 3,000ha for lime. The province's strategy involves the integration of high-tech agriculture within its agricultural restructuring program, emphasizing the reduction of rice seed quantities for sowing, the enhancement of organic fertilizer usage, and the adoption of advanced machinery.
Investments are being directed towards the development of infrastructure supporting agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, with a focus on high-tech and concentrated farming to address climate change challenges. Efforts to promote the high-tech agriculture initiative for the 2021-25 period include increased advocacy to elevate public awareness. Presently, nearly 2,000ha of vegetables, 4,900ha of dragon fruit, and 2,900ha of lime are cultivated using high-tech methods in the province, reflecting a growing trend among local farmers towards these practices to improve yield, quality, and efficiency.
