Walter Ahn from WASTO-PAC on the new, dual-track crate cleaning system:

"Cleaning services not only ensure hygiene, but also facilitate sustainable use of reusable containers"

Immediately after Easter, the new dual-lane crate tunnel system in the washroom of WASTO-PAC Ltd was implemented. The two lanes of the modern cleaning facility can be set to different products and speeds according to product-specific washing programs. "Our focus remains on the food industry, retail grocery, and online commerce," says Walter Ahn, CEO of the company based in Erftstadt.

"Our old single-lane facility had reached its capacity limits. At the same time, we wanted to increase the efficiency of our service, especially since we observe a growing demand for crate cleaning in the food sector," Ahn continues. "The two independently operating lanes allow simultaneous processing of different articles with varying washing programs and hot air blowers. Data storage on temperature, chemicals, quantities, etc., ensures the controlled cleaning process according to HACCP standards. This way, all formats from 300x200 to 800x600 mm as well as heights from 45 to 400 mm can be accommodated. These include, for example, fruit and vegetable crates, plant trays, rigid harvest crates, turn-stack containers, lids, and quarter pallets."

View of the new dual-lane crate tunnel system. There are already many inquiries from different application areas, Ahn confirms.

As a service provider for reusable containers and load carriers, Ahn also supports numerous customers in the fruit and vegetable sector with advice and assistance. "A large number of producers today rely on customer-specific reusable crates. Nevertheless, we are one of the few specialists offering machine cleaning of these crates. Therefore, crate cleaning for us is a strong growth market. The cleaning service not only ensures hygiene safety but also helps to sustainably extend the use of the reusable load carriers. With this facility, we continue the successful path we started in 2012 with the machine cleaning of plastic pallets," the service provider concludes.
