For more than 20 years, AREFLH (the Assembly of European Horticultural Regions) has been actively defending the economic and social interests of regions and producers before the European institutions. The organisation is a driving force behind proposals on the main policies affecting the fruit and vegetable sector.
Each year, the AREFLH General Assembly and its public conference are held in a member region. This year, the event will take place on 21 March in Thessaloniki, with the support of the Central Macedonia region.
In the first part of the conference, participants will discuss the strategic dialogue on the future of European agriculture, launched last January by the President of the European Commission. With institutional and professional speakers, the debate will focus on key issues such as the environment, climate change and innovation. A progress report on sectoral intervention in the fruit and vegetable sector will also be presented by the European Commission's DG AGRI.
In the second part, a round table on water management will be held. Various representatives of regions, producers and scientists will discuss the problems associated with water availability, and present current projects and initiatives to preserve water resources in European regions.
The public conference is free and open to all. It will be streamed on YouTube and translated into 5 languages (English, Spanish, French, Greek and Italian). Registration is required.
