Russia: Prices to come down with WTO membership
The tariff for imported apples, which was in action until July 31, was 0.1 Euro per kg. Starting from August 1 to the end of the year the tariff usually increases to 0.2 Euro per kg. These are protective measures to support local apple producers. The membership of the WTO will not influence the duty for apples imported as a bulk and meant for production of cider. This customs duty will remain 0.2 Euro per kg.
The import duties for apples will steadily go down in the future: the planned duty for 2013 is 0.054 Euro, for 2014 – 0.048 Euro, for 2015 – 0.042 Euro and for 2016 – 0.036 Euro. By 2017 as per its obligations as a member of the WTO, Russia should reach the duty of 0.03 Euro per kg.
At the same time the duty for imported pears will still be 10% this year, as it was before. There are other vegetables and fruits which are not influenced by the new changes. These are: bananas, grapefruit, orange and other citrus fruits.
