The Chilean Walnut Commission expects that more than 42,000 tons of walnuts will become available for export this year. In 2012, the total Chilean walnut production will amount to approximately 45,000 tons, of which only a small part will be for the home market. Almost half of these walnuts are sold in the shell. In the past decade the profits that the Chilean walnut industry has achieved, have increased tenfold, the website Freshfruitportal.com reports. In 2011, a total turnover of around 200 million American dollars was reached. The branch is targeting for Canada, India, South-Korea and Poland as new distribution markets.
