"Spain: "Trident" the new Syngenta cucumber"

Syngenta unveils to technicians and farmers their ‘Trident’ variety. These cucumbers are characterized by their production and vigor for the later winter segment, especially for areas like Almeria and Granada.

The cucumber product manager of Syngenta, Francisco Morales, explained that the purpose is to present "Trident, which is a variety for winter cycles, especially now that we're at the end of the cycle in its regrowth stage." In this sense Morales said that "we want to show this variety's qualities which makes it suitable for these cycles, with good yields and good resistance to cold for this time."

The great production that this variety offers is another defining characteristic of Trident. According to this, the cucumber product manager for Syngenta said that "this vigor that is given to the plant and the tolerance to the cold, results in high
production; looking in this period for high prices, which is what interests the farmers, and also looking for good production to compensate."

Another remarkable characteristic of this variety is its dark green color. In this sense, Morales added that "the color will also depend on handling and the characteristics of the farm, but what is certain, is that it is a fruit with a quite dark color, very necessary for the market, as it requires dark colors and not light ones."

Furthermore, this variety has a strong root system that favors the assimilation of nutrients and provides greater assurance when confronted to winter's rigor. This allows the plant to be used in later transplantation or in colder areas of the coast of Almeria.
